Simple Habits to Keep Faith in Busy Times

Life isn’t always about the big, life changing moments. Sometimes, it’s the little, quiet ones where we truly see God’s hand at work. Faith grows in ways we don’t always expect through daily habits, simple joys, and those moments when we choose to pause and reflect. That’s what I want to talk about today: finding light in the everyday and how we can strengthen our faith, even in the midst of life’s chaos.

Let’s be honest, staying consistent with faith practices isn’t always easy. Life gets busy, routines slip, and some days, it’s a struggle to do even the simplest things. Trust me, I’ve been there. But one thing I’ve learned is that it’s better to take small steps than to aim for perfection and end up overwhelmed.

One of the habits that’s really helped me lately is journaling. I’ve started creating prompts for myself, and I always begin with gratitude. Writing down even one thing I’m thankful for, no matter how small, shifts my mindset almost instantly. It’s such a simple practice, but it makes a big difference.

Another habit I’m working on is waking up and praying first thing in the morning. There’s something powerful about starting the day by centering your heart on God. It’s not always easy, especially on mornings when you just want to hit snooze, but even a short prayer can set the tone for the entire day.

Now, here’s where I’ll be real with you: I struggle with finding God in nature. I’ve read about how powerful it can be to take a walk and reflect on God’s creation, but I find it so hard to get out of the house. It’s something I really want to work on because I know there’s so much beauty and peace to be found outside.

If you’re like me and struggle with consistency or starting new habits, remember this: faith is a journey, not a race. Small steps matter, and it’s okay to take things one day at a time. Here are some simple practices you can try to help you find light in your everyday moments:

Start With Gratitude

Every morning, take a moment to thank God for something, no matter how small. Gratitude shifts your focus and opens your heart to the blessings already in your life.

For Example: “Thank you, Lord, for waking me up today, for the roof over my head, and for the opportunities ahead.”

Seek God in Nature

Sometimes, all it takes is stepping outside. Feel the sun on your face, listen to the wind, or watch the trees sway. God’s presence is woven into creation, and it’s a beautiful reminder of His care.

Challenge: Take a 10-minute walk this week with no distractions, just you, God, and the world around you.

Start and End Your Day With Prayer

Begin your day by talking to God, even if it’s just a quick, heartfelt prayer. At night, reflect on where you saw His hand in your day. These small moments of connection add up.

Write It Down

Keep a journal where you can jot down your prayers, thoughts, and the ways you’ve seen God move in your life. Over time, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come.

Embrace Small Acts of Kindness

Faith is often expressed in how we love others. A kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or just being present for someone can be a reflection of God’s love.

Surround Yourself With Encouragement

Whether it’s friends, family, or an online community, surrounding yourself with people who lift you up can make all the difference. Share your struggles and wins it’s all part of the journey.

At the end of the day, it’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about being intentional and making space for God in the ordinary. These practices don’t have to be overwhelming; they’re just small ways to open your heart and invite God into your everyday life.

I’d love to hear from you: What’s one thing you already do to stay connected with your faith? Or what’s something you’d like to try? Let’s encourage and inspire each other on this journey.
