Nobody really tells you this part.
Growth isn’t always blocked by big, obvious mistakes.
Sometimes it’s the small things… the ones that feel normal, harmless even.
The habits you don’t question.
The patterns you’ve gotten used to.
The version of you that feels comfortable but isn’t actually moving forward.
I’ve been realizing lately that some of the things I do daily are lowkey working against me.
Not in a loud way. Just slowly.
1. Waiting Until I “Feel Like It”
This one used to control everything.
I’d tell myself:
“I’ll start when I’m motivated.”
“I’ll do it when I feel ready.”
But let’s be honest, motivation is inconsistent.
If I only move when I feel like it, I stay stuck way longer than I should.
What I’m fixing:
I’m learning to move without the feeling.
Not perfectly. Not every time.
But more than before.
Because discipline carries you where motivation won’t.
2. Overthinking Instead of Acting
I don’t know about you, but my mind can turn one small decision into a full debate.
“What if it doesn’t work?”
“What if I’m not ready?”
“What if I mess it up?”
And just like that… I do nothing.
Overthinking feels productive, but it’s really just fear dressed up as logic.
What I’m fixing:
I’m trying to act quicker.
Not recklessly but before doubt has time to take over.
3. Comparing My Journey to Everyone Else’s
This one is subtle but dangerous.
Scrolling, watching, observing…
Seeing people ahead, doing more, moving faster.
And suddenly, what I’m doing doesn’t feel like enough.
Comparison doesn’t always make you quit, it just slowly drains your confidence.
What I’m fixing:
I’ve been pulling back from constant comparison.
Focusing more on:
“What am I doing?”
“Am I better than I was last week?”
That shift changes everything.
4. Being Busy Instead of Being Intentional
This one hit me hard.
I can be doing a lot, school, responsibilities, planning, thinking…
But still not doing what actually matters.
Busy doesn’t always mean productive.
What I’m fixing:
I’ve started asking myself:
“What actually moves my life forward today?”
Not everything deserves my energy.
5. Ignoring Rest and Calling It “Grinding”
There’s this mindset that says:
“If you’re not constantly working, you’re falling behind.”
But running on empty doesn’t make you strong, it just makes you exhausted.
And eventually, inconsistent.
What I’m fixing:
I’m learning that rest is part of growth, not the opposite of it.
Not laziness. Not excuses.
Just balance.
The Truth I’m Learning Right Now
Growth isn’t just about what you start doing.
It’s also about what you stop allowing.
Some habits don’t look harmful…
but they quietly keep you in the same place.
If You’re Being Honest With Yourself
There’s probably something you already know you need to fix.
Not next month. Not “eventually.”
Now.
Not all at once. Just one thing.
I’m not writing this like I have everything figured out.
I’m in it too.
Fixing, adjusting, learning… one habit at a time.
But I’m starting to see it clearly:
The life I want isn’t going to come from random effort.
It’s going to come from consistent, intentional choices especially on the days I don’t feel like it.
