I understand that college can be a hectic experience as you juggle your classes, assignments, work commitments, social life, and still manage to find time for faith and leisure. It’s not always simple, but believe me, it becomes immensely rewarding once you establish a rhythm that works for you. I’m here to offer some insights that help me try maintain balance while keeping my sanity in check. Just a heads-up: it’s not about being flawless; it’s about being purposeful in what you do.
1. Plan, Plan, Plan!
Gosh, my absolute favorite thing to do is plan! I love breaking things down and prioritizing what’s most important,it honestly helps me feel like I’ve got my life together.
How I Do It:
- I’m not a huge fan of digital calendars, so I stick to a physical calendar and notebook for planning.
- For quick to-do lists or timestamps for my day, I use the Notes app on my phone.
- Microsoft To-Do is also my go to app it’s so efficient and keeps me organized like nothing else.
2. Stay Consistent With Faith
Faith is a cornerstone of my life, and making it a consistent part of my routine keeps me grounded. From my previous post, I shared practices that can help strengthen your faith (check it out for more in-depth tips!).
What Helps Me:
- Starting my mornings with gratitude and prayer.
- Journaling prompts that make me reflect
- Cultivating simple habits like worship music, scripture reading, or even taking time to appreciate God’s creation. (I’m working on this one, getting outside for a walk isn’t my strength, but I’m hoping to change that!)
3. Learn to Say “No”
This one’s tough but so important. You might want to party or dive headfirst into the full college experience, but it’s crucial to know your priorities.
What I’ve Learned:
- If partying or socializing is your priority, go for it! But if not, focus on your goals and don’t feel bad about saying no.
- Yes, it might hurt a bit to realize what you’re missing out on, but staying aligned with your priorities will pay off in the long run.
4. Find Fun in Little Things
Fun doesn’t always have to be grand or expensive. You can find joy in the simplest moments.
My Favorites:
- Hanging out with friends, chatting, or grabbing coffee.
- Taking a walk or having a self-care night (my absolute favorite!). I love doing my skincare at night with music playing and dancing in front of my mirror.
- Trying new hobbies or recipes (For example I’m planning to learn tennis with my friend this semester!)
5. Make Time for Rest
Guys, this is something I really need to work on. I’m restless and always doing something, but I’ve realized that being “on” all the time just doesn’t help.
My Plan:
- Taking breaks without guilt.
- Prioritizing proper sleep and letting myself rest even when there’s a lot on my plate.
6. Build a Support System
A good support system is a game-changer. It could be anyone who wants to see you win and is there to uplift you.
My Support System:
- My parents, who always cheer me on.
- My advisor and success coach for academic guidance.
- My mentor and friends who keep me grounded and motivated.
Find your people they’re out there!
7. Celebrate Your Wins
You’ve probably heard this a lot, but celebrating your achievements, big or small, is so important.
How I Celebrate:
- Shopping or treating myself to Chick-fil-A—it makes me happy!
- Find what works for you, whether it’s a special meal, a treat, or even just taking a moment to reflect on how far you’ve come.
Balancing academics, faith, and fun is a journey, and it’s all about giving yourself grace. It’s okay to stumble or feel overwhelmed sometimes but what matters is that you keep trying, learning, and growing.
I’d love to hear from you: How do you balance your priorities? What’s one tip that’s helped you manage everything? Let’s keep this conversation going and grow together.
You’ve got this, love!
