God’s Voice: Sometimes It’s in the Small, Everyday Things

We say we don’t hear from God.
We wonder if He’s silent, distant, maybe even ignoring us.
We ask, “Why do others hear Him, but I don’t?”

But what if we’ve been listening for the wrong sound?

✧ The Silent Speaker

God doesn’t always shout.
He doesn’t always part the skies or drop neon signs in front of us.
Sometimes, His voice comes through a whisper.
A moment.
A feeling.

There are days when life feels overwhelming, everything’s loud, but somehow, we feel hollow.
That was me recently. My mind was heavy. I didn’t have words for the emotions.
I just knew I was tired.
So I did what most of us do, I opened TikTok, trying to distract myself with some dance videos, something light. But what I got instead? Was a divine encounter.

Post after post, video after video, it was like someone had been listening to my prayers. The messages were so specific, so timely. It didn’t feel random. It felt… sacred.
It felt like God.

✧ He Watches. He Sees. He Knows. He Understands.

I used to think God only spoke through the “spiritual” stuff, church sermons, Bible studies, worship nights. And yes, He does show up there.
But now I know He also speaks through everyday things:
A friend’s check-in text.
A quote on your feed.
A stranger’s kindness.
Even your “For You” page.

It’s easy to write it off as coincidence. But don’t.
God knows exactly what you need to hear and He finds a way to reach you.
He is always reaching, even when we’re too distracted to see it.
Even when we’ve stopped listening.
Even when we don’t show Him love, He shows up for us again and again.

✧ From My Notes App: A Moment with God

I didn’t plan to share this. It wasn’t even a journal entry, not something I wrote down in a fancy notebook. It was just me and my phone, typing into the Notes app, pouring out everything I was feeling in that moment. No filters, no edits, just honesty.

And honestly? That’s how God meets us sometimes. In the messy, in-between moments. When we’re not trying to be deep. When we’re just trying to breathe.

Here’s what I wrote:

He watches
He sees
He knows
He understands

We talk about how we don’t hear God, how He doesn’t talk to us or give us direction. We ask how others hear from Him. But today made me realize truly that God speaks in different ways and communicates with us differently…

✧ Reassurance in the Random

God’s voice doesn’t have to sound like thunder to be real.
Sometimes, it sounds like peace.
Sometimes, it looks like a message that drops right when your spirit is crumbling.
Sometimes, it’s in the stillness of your room, in that moment before sleep where the weight lifts just a little.

He speaks in a way that fits you. That’s the beauty of God He’s personal.
He won’t force His way in, but He’ll always try to get your attention.
Because He cares.
Because He loves you deeply not just when you have it together, but when you’re falling apart.

✧ Give Him Space

Here’s the truth:
God’s not the one who’s silent.
We’re the ones who aren’t listening.
We crowd Him out with noise, with hustle, with comparison, with fear.

But what if we slowed down?
What if we made space for Him to speak?
What if we gave Him the same attention we give our phones?

He wants to be a part of your day not just Sunday mornings or midnight prayers.
Every moment.
Every scroll.
Every silence.

✧ The Takeaway

So the next time you feel unseen or unheard… pause.
Watch for the small things.
Pay attention to that one post that feels like it was made just for you.
Don’t brush off the “random” encouragement.
That might just be God… reminding you He sees you.

Because He watches.
He sees.
He knows.
He understands.

And yes, even on TikTok, He’s speaking.

    Nifemi,
This was such a great post! I truly appreciated your vulnerability in sharing these wise words and shedding light on an area that many people struggle with. I have experienced this same struggle myself. I believe that hearing from God often happens in small but meaningful moments. If we are expecting to hear from Him, we must remember that He is always speaking. Hebrews 1:1-2 affirms this: “In the past, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.” We have the Word of God and the manifestation of Jesus’ work on the cross to guide us in hearing from Him. We can encounter God everywhere—in our daily walks, when we hear a bird singing or a baby crying, amidst the busyness of work, through a daily devotional sent by a friend, or even via TikTok. I am so grateful that He is speaking even now. Keep sharing ~

Aww thank you so much 🥹❤️. It’s true God’s voice shows up in the small, everyday things if we’re willing to notice. That Hebrews verse is such a perfect reminder. So grateful for your words and encouragement 💛

Yes, I’ve had many moments like that! I’ll share a small one for now. When I moved to Texas in 2022, I embarked on this new journey alone. I had just graduated from college, had no job lined up, only a little money, and my car was packed with everything I could fit. I was extremely nervous since I was alone and the drive from Alabama to Texas was about 11 hours long, but I felt called by God to make the move, so I did. During the drive, an old song from my childhood came on the radio—one I had listened to often. This time, however, it felt different. I believe it was God’s way of reminding me that He sees me, watches over me, and understands. In that quiet moment, I reflected on how God has always been with me. Although this new journey was uncertain, I felt a sense of reassurance that God would carry and protect me wherever I was meant to be.

Wow, thank you for sharing that! I can really feel how special that moment was. It’s crazy how God can speak to us through something so simple, like an old song. It’s like He was reminding you even in the midst of all the unknowns. I love how you stepped out in faith, even when things weren’t clear. That reassurance you felt is so powerful. And honestly, you’re doing so good now! I’m so glad you made that move because it’s how I got the chance to meet you 💛.
