How to Keep Your Faith Strong (Without Losing Yourself)

For the days when life is loud, time is tight, and you still want to stay connected to God.

🌤 Let’s Get Real…

You ever go days without reading your Bible, and then suddenly feel that lowkey guilt creeping in? Like… “I love God, but I haven’t prayed properly all week.” Or maybe you scroll past someone’s perfect devotional setup and wonder if you’re falling off spiritually.

If that’s you, just know you’re not alone.

I used to feel like I was failing God if I wasn’t constantly reading scripture, journaling, or having long quiet times. But over time, I’ve realized something that changed the way I approach my relationship with God:

Faith isn’t about how much you do, it’s about staying connected, consistently and authentically.

It doesn’t have to be deep and dramatic. It just needs to be genuine. Let me share what’s been helping me keep my faith strong in this season and give you a few steps to find what works for you too.

🧎‍♂️ Step 1: Start Your Day With Intention

Every morning, I try to start on my knees. Just a simple prayer, no script, no pressure.

Something like:

“God, thank You for another day. Please guide me and give me strength.”

It’s not about praying long prayers. It’s about starting the day by acknowledging God first thing. Just that small pause sets the tone.

🎧 Step 2: Create a Spiritual Atmosphere (Wherever You Are)

After praying, I usually play gospel or Christian music while I brush my teeth or get ready. It could be worship, a sermon, a podcast whatever helps me focus my mind on God.

You don’t need a perfect “quiet time” setup.
Sometimes I turn on YouTube and let a sermon play in the background. Other times, I open the Bible app and read the verse of the day.

These little things? They keep me connected.

You can try this too:

  • Make a playlist of songs that lift your spirit
  • Set up your YouTube or podcast feed with faith-based content
  • Play scripture audios or short devotionals while driving, working out, or getting ready

📱 Step 3: Use Your Phone as a Faith Tool, Not a Distraction

Let’s be real, we’re always on our phones. Instead of letting it pull us away, why not let it pull us toward God?

Here’s what helps me:

  • Using the Bible app to read short devotionals or verse of the day
  • Saving scriptures or encouraging quotes to my lock screen
  • Following Christian content creators who share helpful, real-life faith content
  • Creating reminders to pause and pray throughout the day

Your phone can either distract or disciple you ( you get to choose).

🌱 Step 4: Start Small, Stay Consistent

If reading a whole chapter of the Bible every morning feels overwhelming, don’t force it. Start small. Maybe it’s one verse. One worship song. A short prayer.

You don’t need to do everything , you just need to do something.

And as you keep showing up in small ways, you’ll find yourself naturally wanting to go deeper. That’s how real, lasting habits are built.

🧭 Step 5: Stop Comparing Your Faith Journey

The truth is: no two people grow the same way. What works for one person might not work for you and that’s completely okay.

You’re not behind. You’re not less spiritual. You’re just on your own path.

Don’t feel bad if your faith doesn’t look like someone else’s. Focus on staying present, staying open, and growing from where you are.

✨ Final Thoughts

Your relationship with God doesn’t need to look a certain way to be real. It just needs to be honest.

Even if you’re not reading your Bible every day, even if your prayers are short, even if you’re still figuring things out, if you’re showing up, God sees you. And He honors that.

You’re not disconnected — you’re growing.
You’re not lost — you’re learning.
You’re not failing — you’re becoming.

Stay close in your own way. Make it personal. Make it consistent. And never forget: God isn’t keeping score, He’s keeping you close.

    Hi Nifemi,
I really enjoyed reading your post! I’m glad to see some practices you’ve incorporated into your life that help you see God and bring glory to His name. My favorite part was when you said, “Faith isn’t about how much you do, it’s about staying connected, consistently and authentically.” I’ve learned the hard way that obedience is more important than sacrifice. Our faith isn’t just about works; it’s also about a genuine desire to love God and honor Him in everything we do. Whether the commitment is big or small, obedience to him is all He needs to help us grow in faith!

Thank you so much😊! I completely agree, God honors a heart that chooses Him, even in the little things. Obedience truly is key.

There are a few things I do daily to help me stay consistent on my faith journey:

      1. Set a specific time to pray every day. I set my alarm at 12 p.m. to pray. I also pray at other times as well, but having this dedicated moment on my schedule helps me stay committed to the Lord by spending time with Him throughout my busy day. Even when I’m too busy and my alarm goes off, I pause to pray silently, staying connected with God.
      2. Read at least one scripture each day. A lot of what you mentioned in this post aligns with what I already do, so I’m glad we’re on the same page!
      3. Talk with God. This might be the most important one, and sometimes it can feel a bit confusing, if we are not consciousness about recognizing His presence. But I truly believe God is real. He talks to us, sees us, lives among us, and desires to know us more. I spend much of my day chatting with Him, about Him, and to Him. This is simply more prayer!

I also love to worship. I would worship 24/7 if I could! I could spend hours doing that, but I won’t go into too much detail about it now.

This really blessed me. I especially want to start being more intentional about talking with God all day long, not just in prayer time. You have to give us the full details of the worship, please make a YouTube video on it🥹!
